HAPPY HARVEY AT 27 YEARS OLD -
HARVEY AND KAREN
Harvey is a retired 27 year old Welsh Cob cross. I noticed he was beginning to land heel first and he was becoming more and more uncomfortable and slowing down. I had him checked by my vet as I thought he may be suffering from arthritis but my vet confirmed that this was not the case. My farrier felt he could not trim Harvey as there was not enough hoof to remove.
I decided to try another approach and contacted Lindsay who felt it was imbalance and flare and that Harvey was finding it difficult to complete the stride phase, particularly at breakover and over uneven ground. The reason being due to excessive growth combined with imbalance, applying increased pressure to soft tissue inside the hoof and joints. This was making his movement look stiff and shortening his stride.
After his first trim addressing balance Harvey's hooves were transformed and he walked away sound, comfortable and happy. His hooves have never to my memory looked so good.
