The High Performance Trim (HPT) is a unique Method and a tool used within AEP. It has been developed by KC La Pierre based on the Suspension Theory of Hoof Dynamics. The term High Performance Trim can sound intimidating to the newcomer but the term reflects on each horse as an individual or in other words, high performance for that particular horse which is assessed using Spectrum of Usability and realistic expectations of the rider.
Using external references the Method balances the hoof capsule to the internal structures of the foot enabling the hoof to utilize correct pressure needed to produce correct growth by using environmental stimulus to achieve mechanical balance and equilibrium of function and individual high performance.
The HPT plays an integral part within the theories of Applied Equine Podiatry which seeks to return and maintain good health to hooves using environment and exercise guided by the Spectrum of Usability. Environmental stimulus can vary from horse to horse but may involve a change in living conditions, exercise in hand or ridden as is required.
An Applied Equine Podiatrist's over whelming priority is the welfare of the horse and to ensure the golden rule of "Do No Harm" is not broken.
An AEP works to the following protocol:
