This is a good example of not removing good material to balance the hoof but using the essential dimension of time for the hoof to repair itself within a suitable environment. In the summer of 2006 this pony had bruised and superficially damaged the hairline and coronet band of his right hind. As the outer wall grew the damaged area formed a wedge then split away from the new growth beneath. As it reached ground level it became weaker and split off. He was trimmed at 4-5 week periods throughout this time. |
