Lindsay and Pogle

LINDSAY - A short biography

As a consequence of owning two horses, one of which suffered repeated abscessing and weak structures and the other that we lost due to pathologies associated with the shod hoof, the 5 horses I now own are shoeless, the longest being 6 years without shoes. It has been an invaluable learning curve and has taught me the vital role environmental conditions and exercise has in this process, however, I still didn't understand how the hoof functioned and never felt confident on how to trim.

In early 2005 my motivation to attend the International Institute's courses in Applied Equine Podiatry both here and in USA was taken after reading 'The Chosen Road' by K C La Pierre, Registered Journeyman Farrier (RJF), Member of the Guild of Professional Farriers, Master Equine Podiatrist, PhD. I gained my Diploma and became a Degreed Equine Podiatrist in October 2006. Over time I had investigated alternative methods of hoof care, both traditional and barefoot, in my quest to gain further knowledge and understanding, but I just didn't feel at ease with the theories promoted, nor did they provide a consistent, professional and in depth educational programme I was looking for and the opportunity for continual professional development.

Having experienced a feeling of overwhelming helplessness due to a lack of knowledge when trying to deal traditionally with problems 'La Pierre Performance Hoof Care' has at last given the freedom of choice to owners, like myself, reassured that evidence based theories have created a formula defined in the Institute's mantra, - Sound Reasoning, Sound Horses - one that I, my horses and many others continue to benefit from.

Over 25 years Lindsay has from personal experience developed an interest in handling horses using various gentling, non-confrontational techniques and in 2001/02 completed the Monty Roberts Foundation Certificate in Horsemanship, Horse Psychology, Feeding and Nutrition and The Horse as an Athlete, Handling the Young Foal Clinic and Stud Practice and Handling the Untouched Horse - Intermediate. Lindsay has found these and other non-aggressive training techniques invaluable over time particularly when handling nervous or challenging horses. Examples of her work can be seen under 'Sound Foundations'.
